One hundred years ago a new voice entered the musical vernacular. The first recording by the Six Brown Brothers in 1911 introduced the sound of saxophones to a popular audience. This sextet of former Canadian circus musicians would become famous through their touring theater work and the new medium of phonograph records. The Six Brown Brothers helped to start a worldwide trend that popularized the saxophone among amateur and home players, and gave the instrument a role in popular and jazz music which continues today.

A one-hour performance and multimedia experience, Ghosts of the Saxophone, produced by Loup-garous Productions, revives the colorful and joyous sounds of the Six Brown Brothers' music. In addition, the presentation includes multimedia and written content about the Brothers and their career. The educational aspect of the program includes the opportunity for student musicians to play in the sextet.

Saxophonists and music historians Dan Levinson and Paul Lindemeyer, creators of Ghosts of the Saxophone, will rehearse and perform with saxophonists from your school, college, or university. They provide educational materials including vintage recordings, arrangements, and a guide to early saxophone performance.
